3 VINTAGE Mk1 CARRIAGES FOR SALE

These are 3 vintage Mk1 carriages built 1953/54 and looking for a good home. There are very few surviving Mk1s left in existence from those years and even less that are still in 'passenger carrying form' (meaning the rest are departmental conversions). These 3 carriages have a bit of history or some unique or interesting characteristic and I would like to see them find a good home at some preserved railway where they would be appreciated. They are to be sold for restoration and not for conversion to a holiday home or a workshop or stripping for spares. I will be as accurate as I can with the description of each carriage so that any potential purchaser can make an informed decision. They are most certainly not in running order and all require work to return them to traffic. However, Mk1s that come 'ready to run out of the box' very rarely if ever come on to the market and so a railway looking to acquire a carriage for its services would these days generally have to consider a restoration project rather than a runner. I can certainly arrange to meet any potential purchasers onsite if they wish to inspect any carriages. However, it may be more practical for any such purchaser if I visited the site and provided some up to date photos and a detailed survey but the presence of adjacent carriages would make photographing some parts of these carriages difficult. In that case, an accurate description will be provided and any questions you have will be answered as accurately as possible. I can certainly provide a survey of each carriage that would answer critical questions such as condition of bodywork highlighting corrosion areas, condition of doors and windows, internal fittings and any missing parts and other problem areas. The carriages are located at a site (in West Midlands) that has been vulnerable and as a result from that I now wish to see them sold and removed from site as soon as is practical. I will consider any reasonable offer for each carriage to clear them offsite. Please genuine enquiries only as I have had a lot of time wasters who have used up a lot of my time and resources to date but achieved nothing as regards a sale. I will work with you to the best of my ability to secure a sale of these carriages. Please contact this site in the first instance.

CORRIDOR SECOND (SK)
Condition - Average to Good. Built 1954 BR Swindon. Steam heat, vacuum brake only. This is one of only 2 surviving Swindon built SKs left.
The carriage is basically complete and features original mirrors and lights and other Swindon fittings of the time. A few mirrors and lights are missing but I have the correct spares in stock and these will be supplied to you to enable you to complete this part of the carriage restoration. The dynamo is also missing but it may be possible to acquire a replacement fitting. Some toilet fittings are missing including pipework and flush handles. Unfortunately, this appears to be an opportunist removal of items but I do not have any replacement items in stock. Apart from the items listed above and below, the carriage is complete.
A basic description of condition is as follows -
Some repairs to bodysides required
Some repairs to windows surrounds (external)
Doors require attention to fit and closing (i.e. posts swollen, door sticks or will not shut)
Some window glass requires resealing
One toilet window glass missing
Requires a repaint

CORRIDOR SECOND (SK)
Condition - Average. Built 1953 BR Derby. Dual heat, vacuum brake. There were rather more SKs were built at BR Derby than Swindon and rather more of those also survive today. This is one of the older survivors - 3rd oldest although one of the older 2 survivors is a disabled conversion and as so would not be viewed as being in totally original form.
The carriage is basically complete and features BR double arrow mirrors. It is fitted with the lights and other Derby fittings of the time. All these were present the last time I checked the carriage.
One compartment window glass missing
Two compartment window glasses shattered but still intact
One droplight glass missing (broken) but may be able to supply a replacement
Some ventilators require resealing
Requires a good clean internally
Requires a repaint

CORRIDOR COMPOSITE (CK)
Condition - Average to Poor. Built 1953 Metro-Cammell. Steam heat, vacuum brake only. This is possibly the oldest surviving Mk1 CK left.
The carriage is not complete and some items were removed prior to transport from its previous site. The mirrors were removed for safekeeping. It is fitted with Derby pattern lights. All these were present the last time I checked the carriage. The gangway connectors, lighting regulator box and 2 window glasses are missing. Some toilet fittings are also missing including pipework, flush handles and other fittings. There is damage to one aluminium window frame. Unfortunately, these items were removed/damaged prior to transport from its previous site but I do have some replacements in stock for some items as stated below.
A basic description of condition is as follows -
Gangway connectors missing (replacement connectors available)
Lighting regulator box missing (replacement possibly available)
Some repairs to body ends/corner posts required
Some repairs to a window surrounds (external)
Doors require attention to fit and closing (i.e. posts swollen, door sticks or will not shut)
One toilet window glass missing
One compartment window glass missing
Some droplight glasses missing or broken but may be able to supply a replacements
Some ventilators missing - (replacements available)
Some seating missing (second class)
Requires a good clean internally
Requires a repaint

This carriage is definitely not for the faint hearted but still deserves a better fate than being scrapped or stripped.

Contact - The Carriage Exchange first if you are at all interested, with your details and intentions, so I can forward them to the vendor.
